DAYS Staging 227 Reunion Between Marla Gibbs and Jackée Harry

Days of our Lives is planning a reunion that is sure to make classic TV fans excited. Marla Gibbs will join the cast of DAYS reuniting her with her long-time friend and 227 co-star, Jackée Harry, who plays Paulina Price.

According to Soap Opera Digest, Gibbs will be playing Olivia Price, otherwise known as Paulina’s mother! Anyone who remembers the bickering between Mary and Sandra and the great chemistry they shared on 227 is bound to be intrigued.

Although we don’t know much about Paulina’s relationship with her mom, it’s probably a good bet to say they have their issues, and Days of our Lives will take full advantage of Gibbs’s sharp wit and revive the on-screen animosity that makes both actresses shine.

Gibbs shot to fame as wisecracking maid Florence on the CBS hit, The Jeffersons. The character was so beloved that she eventually was spun off into her own series, though when the show didn’t catch on, she quickly returned to the deluxe apartment in the sky to be back with George and Weezy.

After the show ended, Gibbs went on to star in 227, playing Mary Jenkins, a sharp-tongued, inner-city resident gossip and housewife in Washington, D.C. Harry played her younger, man-hungry neighbor Sandra, and much of the show’s comedy came from their arguments about views on life. However, underneath their bickering, the two characters cared deeply for each other and eventually became close friends.

Gibbs’s recent credits have included Young Sheldon, Blackish, and the Neighborhood. Just this week, Gibbs was rewarded for an incredible career with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and grabbed headlines when the 90-year-old actress nearly fainted while delivering her speech due to the heat.

“Marla was overwhelmed with all the love and support she received and got overheated,” her agent said. “She just needed a few minutes to cool down.” He added that she was doing well. It’s nice to hear that she’ll be doing what she loves best and be back on the TV screen soon and watching her alongside Harry, starting August 17 — if there aren’t any pre-emptions — is sure to be a hoot.
