Days of Our Lives (DOOL) turned away from love and romance with today’s show and instead felt like a horror film as characters ended up in a bloody heap.
Chad (Billy Flynn) found Abigail (Marci Miller) in bed with his enemy (and half-brother). He completely freaked out and tried to kill Stefan (Tyler Christopher) by beating him to death.
When that wasn’t enough, he decided to kick his lifeless body over and over and over again.
Not to be outdone and perhaps wanting to strike a blow for feminism, Gabi (Camila Banus) encountered a new enemy in prison. Diane (Cassandra Creech) was the girlfriend of disgraced police commissioner Lou Raines, and blamed Gabi for what happened to them both.
Finally able to exact her revenge, Diane beat Gabi to a bloody pulp, with the audience forced to witness every blow to her face as she was thrown against a wall and then held by other enemies so that Diane could get a better shot at her.
What the heck?! Soaps are supposed to be an escape from our daily worries and be filled with family, friendships, and sweeping romance.
Chad and Abigail fans want to see their favorite couple happy and having another baby. Today’s scenes, while riviting, had to have been horrifying to watch on many levels.
Gabi has been through so much but fans root for her scrappy attitude and want her to come out on top at some point.
Over the past couple of years, she’s lost JJ (Casey Moss) and Eli (Lamon Archey) to Lani (Sal Stowers), as well as Chad and her freedom to her best friend, Abigail. And then, today? WOW!
Perhaps these scenes were so shocking because they looked incredibly realistic — which demands kudos to the DAYS’ production team as well as the actors involved.
But just because the show can pull off these types of scenes, is that really where we want to see soaps go?
