Come Friday, July 23, the trickling sand in the iconic Days of Our Lives hourglass will temporarily halt. For a two-week period, the beloved NBC staple will be bidding the airwaves adieu so that the network can air the 2021 Summer Olympics.
According to the Jason47 DAYS website, the peacock network’s coverage of the major international multi-sport event will begin on the aforementioned July date at 7 am Eastern Standard Time. The preemption is expected to remain in effect through Friday, August 6. But there is a caveat.
As explained in the post, “All of this is, of course, pending whether the Summer Olympics goes on as planned later this year.” The games were originally set to air between July 24 and August 9, 2020, but were delayed due to coronavirus concerns.
Should the schedule remain unchanged, DAYS fans can expect the advent of a game-changing cliffhanger guaranteed to lure them back after the break.
Past nail-bitters have included an explosion, which endangered the lives of beloved characters like Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) and Abigail Deveraux (Marci Miller) – and seemed to result in the death of Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford), and a manhunt for three escaped convicts, including Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer), who’s done a bit of maturing in the interim.
Had the Summer Olympics aired in 2020, they would have been preceded by an episode in which Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara’s (Victoria Konefal) crowded wedding venue was decimated by a homemade bomb. But in the wake of their postponement, DAYS continued to broadcast without interruption.
However, a break was already planned so a mini-story was written in a rush. That story resulted in a town-wide blackout and another prison break engineered by a Statesville inmate. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
