Stephen Nichols: Deep And Personal Loss
“My dear sister, Penny,” Nichols began his Instagram tribute. “Penny, I will always carry your courage, generosity and love in my heart, and do my best to live by your example. @pns49.”
In the video montage in the post below, you can see photos of Penny throughout her life. They include beloved black and white snapshots from her and her brother’s childhood. Nichols wrote that his sister was a beautiful person. “She was vibrant and funny…and fun-loving,” he added. “Her smile lit up many a room…and warmed the hearts of so many.”
Nichols went on to describe his sister as both “fierce” and “unafraid to speak her mind.” He says that she fought for those who were close to her. The actor says that Penny cared for their mother in her final years, giving her the most comfortable life possible.
“When we were children, she was my protector,” Nichols added. “As I witnessed the grace she showed during her illness…she became my hero. You’re in my heart always & forever. My dear, sweet sister, Penny.”
Nichols’ family and friends responded to the actor’s loving post with heartfelt words of sympathy and support.
“Such a beautiful tribute Papa💕,” wrote Dyllan Nichols, the actor’s daughter, and Penny’s niece.
“Oh, my love…” Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) posted to her TV husband. “I wrap my arms around you! ♥️.” TV son Lucas Adams (Tripp) wrote: “I am so sorry for your loss. Love you man❤️.”
Robert Scott Wilson (Ben) expressed his deep sympathies with two prayer symbols: “🙏🏼🙏🏼.” Added Stacy Haiduk (Kristen): “I am so sorry!!!!❤️.”
“My friend, I am so sorry,” wrote Tamara Braun (Ava). “You have my love and support. 💗🙏💗.” Eric Martsolf (Brady) added: “🙏🏻💙.”
Penny is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; sisters-in-law Sue Spiegel and Lisa Hanauer; a son, Zach Spiegel (Sandy); brothers Steven Nichols (Lisa); Zach Zunis (Nitchie); and Christopher Zunis (Karlissa); numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Due to social-distancing concerns, a celebration of Penny’s life will be held in the spring or as soon as it is safe to gather.
In lieu of flowers, per her obituary on Legacy, contributions can be made in Penny’s name to two organizations that were dear to here: Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton at 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420; Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio, 224 N Wilkinson St, Dayton, 45402.
