Lani suffered a horrible loss on Days of Our Lives (DOOL) this week and now actress Sal Stowers gives insight into how her character is handling her heartbreak.
Earlier in the week, Lani almost died on the table as she underwent a C-section. While she survived, her premature son did not and Friday she learns the heartbreaking truth when Eli (Lamon Archey) breaks the horrible news.
By Monday, she asks to see her son and it’s a moment you won’t ever forget, so break out the Kleenex for this.
Stowers spoke with TV Insider about how she found out about the story twist and so much more.
“I found out shortly before we were going to shoot the scenes. I was completely shocked,” she revealed. “I thought I’d go full-term. It really broke my heart. I was excited to have that new chapter for Lani.”
But it was not meant to be for Lani, and in turn, Stowers has been given some meaty material with the fallout.
“Then I realized the material I was going to be given and [was honored that] they trusted me with such powerful and emotional material. I said, ‘Okay, I’m going to give this all I have.’ I opened my soul to it and that’s what I did.”
The actress spoke about how hard it was to play the scenes and then have the live baby in the fantasy. “I was an absolute wreck that day. There was the real baby [I got to hold] and the baby Lani lost.”
Viewers will start seeing Stowers’ hard work when Lani learns what happened to her little boy. “My throat is closing up as I talk about it. I remember that day. It still makes me so emotional,” she shared.
“I can’t even talk because I’m so emotional about it. I really let myself go. I remember collapsing in Lamon’s arms. It’s just something that you don’t want to ever hear.”
