The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday was a fitting time for Days of our Lives star Mike Manning to reveal the release date of his upcoming film, Son of the South, about the grandson of a Klansman who comes of age in the deep south — and eventually joins the Civil Rights Movement.
The actor, who plays Ava Vitali’s (Tamara Braun) bad-seed son, Charlie, shared the news, along with a mesmerizing trailer for the new film, with his Twitter followers, letting them know the exciting news.
“I think #MLKDay is a good day to tell you ‘Son of The South’ will be out Feb. 5th,” wrote the handsome star. “I hope it strengthens the dialogue our country is currently having about the fight for equality on all fronts. Exec produced by Oscar-winner Spike Lee. Proud of this one. @son_movie”
Also appearing in the much-anticipated film are Julia Ormond (The Walking Dead: World Beyond; Mad Men ), Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars), Cedric the Entertainer (The Neighborhood; Barbershop), and the late Brian Dennehy and was directed by Barry Alexander Brown and based on his book, The Wrong Side of Murder Creek.
While life is looking pretty great for Manning, his character, Charlie, is in big trouble in Salem as more and more people learn the truth about him raping Allie (Lindsay Arnold), never mind having drugged, knocked out, and kidnapped his unhinged mother, Ava.
Big brother Tripp (Lucas Adams) tried to throw him a lifeline after hearing about his sad little life growing up, but of course, Charlie threw it all back in his face, determined not to like his mother’s favorite son. Will Charlie ever admit what he’s done and look for redemption? Stay tuned to find out. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
