She plays one of Days of Our Lives‘ most delicious baddies, but now fans may be seeing someone else as Vivian Alamain. Her portrayer, Louise Sorel, is speaking out on a recent trip to Salem that — for her — is, unfortunately, not happening.
On her Facebook page, Sorel posted that someone had asked her about the recasting of Vivian Alamain, the role that Sorel began playing on DAYS in 1992. She schemed and dreamed as Vivian for years, leaving Salem in 2000.
She reprised Viv in 2009 and again at the end of 2017 to help usher the character of Stefan O. DiMera (then, Tyler Christopher; now, Brandon Barash) onto the canvas.
Now, it appears that the show extended an invitation to the actress — one that she was unable to accept. “I was given a week to return for a Period of time,” Sorel recently shared on social media. “It was too short notice. I love Vivian. Maybe Another time.”
Soap Hub reported months ago that word was iconic soap vet Robin Strasser, a friend of Sorel’s, would briefly take over the role. While DAYS has not confirmed the recast, we do know Strasser is coming to Salem.
DAYS needed a substitute Vivian once before and cast Marj Dusay in the role in 1993. Ironically, Dusay and Vivian’s rival, Carly (Crystal Chappell), were reunited years later on Guiding Light as, respectively, Alexandra and Olivia.
Stay tuned for news on Vivian coming back to Salem. As soon as Soap Hub gets details, we’ll let you know! Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check local listings for air times.
