This is the week that fans of Days of our Lives’ Greg Vaughan have been dreading, as Eric Brady will be making his last appearance in Salem — at least for now.
The character is leaving his family—including wife Nicole and the adorable Holly—to head to Africa because he thinks he can make positive change.
Fans can be thankful that Eric wasn’t killed off so there’s always an opportunity for him to return, but it’s still hard to see a character people have invested so much in say goodbye.
Vaughan, who made the decision to leave, took to his Instagram account to send a special goodbye to his fans and co-stars.
“Seeing it’s the last week I’m airing on DAYS, I wanted to share some great captured memories this week with my incredible fans and castmates,” he wrote, sharing a collection of photos detailing his time on the set.
He of course has a photo with his on-screen parents Marlena and Roman, played by Deidre Hall and Josh Taylor, and adds a complete family shot with twin sister Sami (Alison Sweeney) thrown into the mix.
Vaughan also included a photo alongside his on-screen grandmother, Caroline Brady, played by the late Peggy McCay.
The photos run the gamut of Vaughan’s time as Eric in Salem, including happy moments such as weddings and serious moments, such as when Eric decides to give up the priesthood.
The Emmy-winning actor first stepped into the shoes of Eric in 2012, following a six-year stint as General Hospital’s Lucky. He also starred in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series Queen Sugar as Detective Calvin.
While it might seem an unusual time for Eric to exit Salem, especially with all that’s going on with Sami and the baby, John’s recovery and his lovely wife, his mission work at least sends him off in a positive light. Soap Hub wishes Vaughan the best in his next role and looks forward to possible return visits in the future. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
