Due to the lead time between when Days of our Lives episodes are shot and when they air, it’s often challenging to have perspective between news that breaks about the show and when viewers will see that take effect on-screen. Case in point: Freddie Smith (Sonny) announced in February that he was exiting the show.
Since the show tapes so far ahead, viewers will continue seeing him (and Chandler Massey who plays Will) for many more months.
“I remember shooting today’s DAYS scenes and [that] got me thinking about how many episodes Sonny has left to air,” Smith posted on Twitter recently. “I’m not 100% sure but looking through my emails, [it] looks like 36 more episodes between now and sometime in September! So you got more Sonny Days ahead!”
Originally, DAYS was set to be preempted later this summer due to the French Open tennis tournament and the Summer 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, but now those events have been postponed due to coronavirus. If DAYS airs original episodes on those days, then episodes originally set for September may now be shown earlier, which would alter Smith’s original final air dates.
Of course, fans of both Smith and Massey don’t want the actors to be going at all!
“That’s not enough !!!!!!Loudly crying face @nbcdays needs to rehire both you and @ChandlerMassey ASAP we can’t lose you or our beloved #WILSON,” posted Valerie Lopez aka @V5593490650.
“It is not enough days with Sonny and Will,” posted Robert Smith AKA @TXrobstar. “Hoping that the people in charge realize the mistake they have made letting you and Chandler go. There is time to fix that while we are all on break. Wilson forever!”
It’s unclear how Sonny and Will are going to leave the storytelling canvas. Don’t miss an episode! Days of our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check local listings for air times.
