John Black has been going through hell on Days of Our Lives, but Drake Hogestyn has plenty of reason to celebrate!
Hogestyn was born on September 29, 1953, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which means that he’s turning 65 on Saturday! He graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida on a baseball scholarship and majored in pre-dentistry.
He pitched in the minor leagues before getting into acting and was even drafted by the New York Yankees. He played third base for their farm team until he was injured in 1978.
His first TV role was on the TV adaption of the hit film, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. He also appeared on the TV show Otherworld.
But it was in 1986 when his life changed forever when he was cast as John Black on DAYS — a role he has played on and off ever since. Of course, part of that time his character thought he was Roman Brady (now played by Josh Taylor).
On the personal front, Hogestyn has been married to Victoria since December 31, 1986 and they have four children.
Hogestyn is a huge fan of Bruce Lee and is a practitioner of Jeet Kune Do — the style of martial arts Lee developed. He is also an expert of the nunchucks, which was the weapon Bruce Lee used in his films.
