When we last saw Sonny Kiriakis, he left for Europe to grieve the loss of his husband, Will. Sonny couldn’t handle life in Salem, but “Days of Our Lives” always left the door open for actor Freddie Smith’s return.
FINALLY On Air!
In fact, the show approached Smith about returning not long after Sonny hopped onto the Kiriakis jet. With DAYS’ six-month production lead time, it took a while to get the fan-favorite back on screen, and next week it finally happens.
According to the August 1 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Smith describes Sonny as a more mature man. He’s experienced loss, but he’s also nearly 30.
Sonny Expands His Horizons
Expect to see Sonny mingling with more of the Salem crew than ever before, including his ex-lover Paul. Smith told Digest he has several scenes coming up with Christopher Sean as they come to terms with their broken relationship. However, Sonny’s story doesn’t stop there.
“I’ve worked with more people in a shorter period of time than I did in the four years I was first on DAYS,” Smith told Digest. “You’re going to see Sonny interacting with everyone. I get to work with a lot of new people.
One of those “new people” is Eric Martsolf (Brady), of whom Smith said is “really funny, so we have to make ourselves get serious when it’s time to get in front of the cameras.”
