Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Days of Our Lives week that was.
Excuses, excuses, we hear them every day…But it turns out, “I was tricked into bedding the help and I was too stupid to realize,” is no defense for sleeping with an employee – hence Chad’s (Billy Flynn) resignation from DiMera Enterprises and Jake’s (Brandon Barash) surprise promotion.
Gwen (Emily O’Brien) expected her Dickensian upbringing and supposed abandonment by supposed papa Jack (Matthew Ashford) to excuse her treatment of Abigail (Marci Miller) but Jack and Jennifer (Cady McClain) weren’t tempted to give her a pass. However, Jack was willing to concede that Gwen may indeed be his. He was quite the cad back in the day. That’s not an excuse, just a fact.
Just like it’s a fact that Xander (Paul Telfer) is a (reformed) baby napper. So it should have come as no surprise to him nor Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) when he stood accused of conspiring with Dr. Raynor (Victoria Platt) to nab the Grant twins. He didn’t do it…and that was a fact quickly accepted by all. But he COULD offer a helping hand in bringing his former partner-in-crime to justice. And he decided to do just that. But only begrudgingly.
Just about as begrudgingly as the acceptance Brady (Eric Martsolf) displayed when Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) agreed to shelter Philip (Jay Kenneth Johnson) from the mob. Philip claimed that he only took Chloe up on the offer because he was scared of what the mob may do if they found him but that was a load of bull.
And it was the same type of bull that Charlie (Mike Manning) was attempting to sell Claire (Isabell Durant). It seems that she’s actually become wise to his ways. But only just. She really didn’t want to leave with Ben (Robert Scott Wilson). She’s never really known what was good for her. She says it’s because she’s always felt second best. But we think that was just an excuse used after she attempted to flame broil her auntie.
Gabi (Camila Banus) claims unfinished business between her and Jake as the reason for her predatory behavior. Kate (Lauren Koslow) rightfully called it for what it is — petty jealously.
* We can probably all agree that Gwen’s revelation wasn’t exactly a startling one, yes? Rather than the gasp-inducing moment we’re sure the writers were expecting, the whole “Jack, you are my father” bit was something many saw coming a few hundred miles away. Still, the resulting acting was stellar from all involved.
* Now that the truth is out, Abigail (Marci Miller) had better be the first in line (and down on her hands and knees) to apologize to Gabi. Abigail already robbed her of precious time with her daughter, and the ability to ever have another child, so the least she can do is say, “Sorry I spent months accusing you of poisoning me when you had absolutely nothing to do with it.”
* Though it was fantastic to see the flashback to Kate’s days aboard the fishing vessel, there were some errors as to the explanation of how she got there. Vivian (Linda Dano) did NOT purposefully poison Kate’s pilot. In point of fact, she had dosed Kate’s coffee with sleeping pills, and it was Kate who handed the coffee over to the pilot.
* Please, please, PLEASE tell us that Kate was not joking when she said that the town courthouse was named in memory of Stefano DiMera. Because that is too precious. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
