On the heels of a report last week that Days of Our Lives had released actors from its contract and is in danger of cancelation, some good and expected news has been revealed. Days of Our Lives is not going anywhere and will stay on NBC for at least another year.
According to Soap Opera Digest, Ken Corday revealed that he has received a renewal offer from NBC to the cast today. Now, sighs of joy and relief can be heard across the cyberspace universe.
The 54-year-old soap is going strong with its time jump storyline, where Salem is now experiencing 2020 before the rest of us. Stories are shocking and have people talking.
The mood was also upbeat two weekends ago at the Day of Days fan event with the cast looking forward to the next year. Corday told the audience at the Q&A event, “I’m just the guy who’s lucky enough to stand up here. We’re dreaming of 60, so stay with us!”
The soap is going on hiatus in time for the Thanksgiving holiday next week, but sources tell Soap Hub that Days of Our Lives will be back in production by January.
DAYS made its debut in 1965 and the longest-running of the daytime soap operas still on the air. It has outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households. Needless to say, five decades of storylines have kept viewers locked in and wanting more.
From Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) evil schemes to Victor Kiriakis’s (John Aniston) one-liners to the epic love story of Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), DAYS knows how to entertain and keep fans coming back for more. Sadly, times are shifting and daytime soap operas are shrinking.
It is one of only four remaining soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include General Hospital (GH), The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). DAYS airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for air times.
