The Days of Our Lives recap for April 20-24, 2020, features a plethora of examples proving that you can’t always predict the outcome of a good soap opera storyline.
The wonderful thing about a soap opera is that even though you think you know where the story is going, there’s always a twist or a turn that you didn’t quite anticipate. And DAYS is a soap with a reputation for being twistier than most.
Just when it seemed that Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) were about to be reunited with their baby, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) bundled her up and did a runner – all the way to Paris.
And just when it appeared that Victor (John Aniston) would get away with his crimes scot-free (seriously why is “I did it for Maggie” a legitimate excuse for framing people for crimes and switching babies?) Kristen introduced him to the business end of a cheese knife.
Then there was Kayla (Mary Beth Evans). She had finally made a decision on which man she wanted to pursue a future with but before she could reveal it, Steve (Stephen Nichols) said sayonara and Justin (Wally Kurth) said he didn’t want her by default.
And finally, poor, poor Gabi (Camila Banus). She went from being the well-respected Widow DiMera who ruled the roost at the family company to a jobless (thanks Li Shin!), social pariah. Oh, and now she sees dead people.
But wait! If Gabi’s suddenly developed a Sixth Sense so has Ben (Robert Scott Wilson). How else to explain that surly mechanic who looks identical to (the very, very dead) Stefan? So twisty! So turny!
Chad: “Li…It’s great to see you again.” Li: “You too. The last time we saw each other, the circumstances weren’t ideal.” Gabi: “Yeah, didn’t you have to fire him for sexual harassment?”
If that storyline doesn’t sound familiar, that’s probably because you haven’t watched the digital series Chad and Abby in Paris. Juliet Lyon was a DiMera employee who used a bogus claim of sexual harassment to try and oust Chad from his position as CEO of the company’s Parisian subsidiary.
Li: “[Gabi] did build a successful company from the ground up, whereas DiMera Enterprises was handed to you, Chad.” In that case…why did you hand him the CEO position? Sounds like Gabi would have been the far more obvious choice. And surely the board doesn’t have a problem with a known criminal running the company…did they forget who the founder was?
Abigail: “Ben?!” So, what is the cause of Abigail’s sudden and terrifying hallucination of a tie wielding Ben? Did someone drug that bottle of fancy champagne that she and Chad sipped at Julie’s? Or perhaps something was slipped into the liquor decanters at the DiMera mansion? Or could this be symptomatic of a brain tumor?
Marlena: “You’re blaming me for what happened to Evan?” Orpheus: “You’re damn right I do. Things could have turned out differently if you’d raised my children like I asked.” Actually, you didn’t so much “ask” as you did threaten to murder her children, Eric and Sami, if she didn’t comply with your wishes.
Orpheus: “John stole Rebecca from me, so I stole you from him.” Umm…no. It was ROMAN (Josh Taylor) who accidentally shot and killed Rebecca Harp all those years ago.
Orpheus: “My dear Marlena. It’s goodbye for now, but not forever.” Oh, we really hope you mean that Orpheus. An in-peril Marlena is always the best Marlena.
John: “If anything is to blame for Evan becoming a criminal it’s the genes that his father passed on to him.” Marlena: “Yeah. Evan’s got a sister with the same DNA. I hope she turned out better.”
Well, that’s debatable. She does seem to think that you can “accidentally” strangle someone to death with a scarf and she’s planning on suing Rafe (Galen Gering) for custody of David so…
Orpheus: “There are some things that need to stay between us…No one needs to know what we did.” Waiiiiiiit. Does this gruesome twosome have yet another secret?
Hope: “We did all of these unspeakable things…together.” Yes…so now what? Are you two destined to become a couple? Or a couple of old pals sharing a house? Where are The Powers That Be going with these two?
Brady: “Do you know what my half-brother Eric is doing right now?” No, because he doesn’t exist. However, we might know what your STEP-brother Eric is doing. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
