The Days of Our Lives recap for Wednesday, August 22 features a few snags in the John and Marlena wedding…and to think, it was going so smoothly! (Not.)
Not-So-Sweet Dreams Are Made of This
The night before the wedding, Marlena (Deidre Hall) has a bad dream: Roman (Josh Taylor) stops the wedding, claiming that he was the real John Black.
In the dream, Marlena then claimed she was really Hattie and “John but not really John” ended up with the Marlena doll.
It was an unfounded dream because Roman later told Eric (Greg Vaughan) that he had no intention of coming to John and Marlena’s wedding.
When Marlena woke, Susan (Stacy Haiduk) walked in, thus continuing the nightmare. Susan promised that she wouldn’t try to steal John away this time.
But Susan upset Marlena when she mentioned Kristen DiMera’s name. When pressed, Susan said she saw Kristen on New Year’s Eve at the hospital in Memphis.
Marlena ultimately convinced Susan that it was just a side effect of her medication before Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Belle (Martha Madison) convinced Susan to go back to the town center and help with centerpieces.

Kayla and Belle expressed their concerns about Susan’s attendance, but Marlena assured them that everything would be fine.
Meanwhile, John said he can’t get married with a black eye, because Marlena wanted it perfect. Abe commissioned Valerie to bring her makeup bag to cover up John’s shiner.
Susan later saw the Marlena doll on the floor and after whining about how Marlena didn’t care for her, stuck a knife in its back and left it on a table, next to an empty hourglass.
Concerned Dad
Across town, Shawn (Brandon Beemer) stormed through the loft door with Belle in tow and expressed his anger at Claire about Ben living in the loft.
Belle echoed Shawn’s sentiments, but Claire protested that not only did “Grandma Marlena” say it was OK, she was over 18, and thus was capable of making her own decisions. Shawn said that Claire will always be his little girl, so this battle is far from over.
