Days of our Lives finally did it! They went ahead and leaped bravely into the future, skipping a year of storytelling over the space of a weekend.
Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) went into a coma… Jennifer came out of a coma… and Jack (Matthew Ashford) told her a year had passed. Ta-da! Did fans like how the transition was handled? What almost 5,000 had to say about it:
Days of our Lives: Be Kind, Rewind
It’s not too late to take it back, 56% urge. Make it a dream… Bobby Ewing in the shower… Jennifer’s coma brain acting up. Just undo it!
All of a sudden, Eve (Kassie DePaiva), Ben (Rover Scott Wilson) and Will (Chandler Massey) are in jail, JJ (Casey Moss) is on drugs, Haley (Thia Megia) is dead, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) has a new boyfriend, and Eric (Greg Vaughan) has a new daughter… though he doesn’t know it.
It’s like reading a synopsis. And that’s not what you watch soaps for. You don’t watch soaps merely to know what happened, you watch soaps to find out how and why it happened… in real time.
If it’s just a matter of plot points, why not jump a year forward every week, and catch us up on what we missed. Show not tell is a writing rule for a reason. We’re getting a lot of telling, not much showing.
Thank goodness something is finally happening, 40% of Days of our Lives fans cheer. We were spinning around in circles, and now it feels like the pedal has been pushed to the metal — and we’re loving it.
DAYS has us wondering why Will did what he did. Also, where is Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Kristen’s (Stacey Haiduck) bundle of joy? Is Ciara (Victoria Konefal) really over Ben and on Team Victor (John Aniston)? Or playing them both? This makes us want to watch every day! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
