Once upon a time, teens were Days of our Lives’ bread and butter. Not just the Last Blast Gang like Belle (Martha Madison), Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin). Not just Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and her older, edgy, ex-Merchant Marine boyfriend. But even Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) was once an out of control, rebellious teen.
Days of our Lives Polling
So where are all those young people now? Other than Ciara (Victoria Konefal) and her older, edgy ex-serial killer boyfriend, Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) is incarcerated, and JJ, Joey, Theo, and Tripp have been shipped out of town. Does Salem need a revitalized teen scene? What we heard from 2,000 fans:
We’re Good, Thanks
Nah, 64% of you shrug, we’re perfectly happy watching John (Drake Hogysten) play hero for Marlena (Deidre Hall) against the new and not improved SteVano (Stephen Nichols). We like seeing our old favorites on the front burner.
Days of our Lives is one of the few shows to remember which characters put their show on the map! Teens take a while to warm up to, especially newbies and with some, it takes them an even longer time to, you know, learn to act. Not saying they don’t eventually. But let’s not rush the process.
Young Blood
A smaller 34% is all for an influx of newbies. Or at least quasi-newbies. Why not bring back JJ and Joey and Theo and Tripp? We may not care all that much about them, but at least we have warm, fuzzy feelings for their parents. That’s a start. Even Claire can come back. Every story needs a bad girl to stir the pot.
Plus, if we want soaps to continue, we need to ensure there’s a next-generation standing by to step onto the front burner as soon as this one has run its course. Teens are Salem’s future! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
