For years – decades – on Days of our Lives, the names Kayla and Steve went together. Like Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes). Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso). Justin (Wally Kurth) and Adrienne (Judi Evans).
But, you know, stuff happens. Adrienne died. Steve (Stephen Nichols) disappeared. And when he came back, he was a Stefano in Steve’s clothing, AKA SteVano. Oh, and Justin and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) were together. But which man is the best choice for our intrepid Brady doctor? Over 11000 viewers voted:
It’s Steve, a definitive 70% shrug. It’s always Steve. Not Jack (Matthew Ashford). Not Shane (Charles Shaughnessy). Steve. Steve, Steve, Steve.
He is the guy she fell in love with even when she knew he was just a street thug. Even though she knew he’d terrorized Hope and ran drugs for Victor (John Aniston). Yeah, Victor used to run drugs. It was the 80s. Former Playmate of the Year Shannon Tweed was his henchwoman. Like we said, the 80s.
Kayla saw through Steve’s tough exterior to the real, vulnerable man on the inside. Surely, she can still see through the Stefano outfit.
You know what Justin hasn’t done, 30% propose? He hasn’t run drugs or terrorized people or turned into somebody else. That already makes him a better candidate for… most things.
Plus, Steve is the past. You can’t go home again. (To the 80s.) Bo is dead, Victor is harmless, and Roman sure does look a lot like Chris Kositchek (Josh Taylor).
Kayla should forget all about their exciting adventures and settle down with sweet, reliable, dimpled Justin. Theirs is a grown-up love. It’s mature, and a little dull. Just like grown-up love should be.
And Steve won’t mind. He has his Queen of the Night. And his weirdo kids, happy to do his bidding – as long as they’re hypnotized properly. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
