This month marks 37 years since one of the most iconic characters in Days of Our Lives history made his very memorable debut. Peter Reckell and Bo Brady roared into town as Roman’s younger brother and changed the course of Salem history.
Happy Anniversary, Peter Reckell
The Twitter account, Those Were The Days, remembered Reckell’s 37-year anniversary on the show on May 3 with screenshots of his very first scenes and Reckell recalled what it was like to work on the soap at the start.
“I was so lucky to be working with amazing actors who knew how to help the new guy from making a fool of himself,” the actor tweeted.
Indeed, he was working with two veterans still on the soap today, Deidre Hall as Marlena and James Reynolds as Abe. He also shared his first scenes with Wayne Northrop, who played Roman at the time and was a newlywed married to Marlena.
Bo was brought into the police station for stealing a microwave, but he claimed that microwave was a wedding present to his brother and his brand-new bride. Bo had just returned to his hometown after a stint with the Merchant Marines and his rebel, bad-boy (with a heart of gold) attitude was apparent from the start.
Soon, Bo would meet Hope at Shenanigans and the two would not get along at all as he considered her a child (she was in high school after all) and she was determined to prove she was all grown up.
And, the rest is soap opera history as Bo and Hope went on to become one of daytime’s most popular pairs. Peter Reckell remained with the soap on and off until 2015 when Bo succumbed to a brain tumor and died in Hope’s arms. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
