Days of our Lives News Update: Peter Reckell Pays Tribute To His Dad

Days of our Lives icon Peter Reckell lost his father on June 27, as Russ Reckell passed away in Michigan at the age of 92.

The news was reported by the actor’s wife, actress Kelly Moneymaker, on her Twitter feed, informing fans that Reckell was able to travel safely to Michigan to say a final goodbye to his dad. She posted a photo from “happier days” when the Reckell men took a snow-machine trip together and noted Russ “departed peacefully & surrounded by love.”

Reckell took to Twitter as well, talking about his last moments with his dad. “While holding my father‘s hand in those final days, he’s only regret was he wished he could do more for those poor people dying out there for no good reason,” Reckell wrote. “He was concerned about all the homeless and the folks affected by this pandemic.”

An outpouring of love and support came from fans and former co-workers on Twitter and the actor thanked everyone for their condolences as he talked about what a great dad his father was.

“He came from a dirt poor upbringing to raise 6 healthy, motivated, successful children,” Reckell said.

According to his obituary, Russ served two years in the Army during the Korean War and earned a civil engineering degree. He retired as Department of Management and Budget Construction Director for the State of Michigan in 1979 and opened up his own general contracting and engineering consulting firm, before finally retiring for good 10 years later. Reckell’s mom Barbara Joan, Russ’ wife of 66 years, died last June.
