It was about a month ago that Days of our Lives actress Martha Madison saw a Twitter post that grabbed her attention.
Martha Madison: Life Is A Soap Opera
The Tweet read, “This is a longshot, but does anyone on here have friends or relatives who are or were soap opera actors/writer, even for a bit part, and would love to make the day of some kids whose favorite summer writing camp was moved online?”
The camp was run by Thurber House, a non-profit literary center for readers and writers located in Columbus, Ohio, in the historic former home of author, humorist, and New Yorker cartoonist James Thurber. The assignment for the kids was to write a soap opera script.
Madison responded with an emoji of a girl raising her hand, and asked, “Can I bring some friends?”
That set in motion some of daytime’s finest volunteering by acting out some of the scenes that the campers wrote, performing them over Zoom. Madison posted a video of some of the highlights on her Instagram and invited soap fans to watch to kick off their week with a smile.
Expect typical soap drama, such as Wally Kurth uttering, “I love you too, Jeff. Almost as much as I love Splenda”; and Madison’s character worrying about being discovered as a serial killer.
“I want to thank my friends and castmates from @nbcdays who donated their time and creativity to the Summer Writing Camp at @ThurberHouse (Thurberhouse.org),” Madison wrote. “The young writers there are so talented, and seeing their ‘soap opera’ scripts played out by professionals will definitely leave a lasting impression as they continue on their creative journeys. You are the best of the best! THANK YOU!”
Other soap stars who took part included Brandon Barash, Brandon Beemer, Chadwick Hopson, Eric Martsolf, Heather Boyd, Lamon Archey, Lilly Melgar, Linsey Godfrey, Lucas Adams, Nadia Bjorlin, Olivia Keegan, and Paul Telfer.
