Days of our Lives News Update: Ben and Ciara’s Wedding-Date Cliffhanger

On Wednesday’s episode of Days of our Lives, Ciara delighted in surprising her fiancé Ben with their “save the date” card, which revealed the beloved young couple’s date they picked for their upcoming wedding. While eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted July 24, that date’s significance may have slipped your mind.

Days of our Lives Cliffhanger — Or Is It?

The Jason47 DAYS Website was the first to realize the happy couple’s wedding date meaning. “Save The Date confirms Ben and Ciara’s wedding was scheduled to be the 2-week Summer Olympics cliffhanger on Friday, July 24.” The Facebook page has done a great job keeping track of pre-emptions and their effect on the DAYS schedule.

After all, there were several sporting events that were supposed to pre-empt the show back before there was a coronavirus crisis taking all sports away. In fact, Memorial Day Weekend was supposed to remove the show for three days for the French Open tennis championship. The fact that new episodes aired instead of it will have repercussions, which the Facebook site points out.

“If 3 repeats are not added in beforehand, the episode will now air on Tuesday, July 21 immediately followed by the originally scheduled 17-day cliffhanger moving up from Monday, August 10 to Wednesday, July 22.” So not only will fans not have to wait 17 days before seeing the resolution of the cliffhanger, they’ll now see it the very next day!

This will also affect the airings of shows that were timed for holidays. In other words, don’t expect July 4th fireworks to be timed correctly, as well as Labor Day (though whether Salem was going to acknowledge that holiday is unknown), and of course Halloween. Then again, if the show doesn’t get back in the studio soon, it may have worse issues.

While everyone associated with DAYS is better off than the other three soaps, which are all currently airing classic episodes, the Salem stockpile won’t last forever. The good news is it won’t take them as long, now with the shorter time to air, to line things back up for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays — if they can get back to work soon. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
