Days of our Lives News Update: A Martinez Returns To Soap As Eduardo

The revolving door in Salem never seems to stop spinning. The latest casting news is that A Martinez is coming back to Days of our Lives as Eduardo Hernandez.

The actor is expected to return to the soap in the next few months as Eduardo, according to Soaps.com, just as we expect Galen Gering to leave. Gering plays Eduardo’s son, Rafe.

Martinez first came to the attention of daytime fans for his legendary role as Cruz Castillo on Santa Barbara. The actor was paired with Marcy Walker (Eden). Both actors won Daytime Emmys for their work on the NBC serial.

Martinez debuted on DAYS in 2015. Viewers learned that the Hernandez patriarch was also father to the late Paige (Tru O’Brien), daughter of Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva). Eduardo was driven to find who Paige’s killer was. He embarked on a relationship with Kate (Lauren Koslow) and also tried to help Eve with her music career.

Eduardo also attempted to help his other children, taking a bullet for Rafe (Galen Gering) and saving Dario (Jordi Vilasuso) after a bomb explosion. In another story, Eduardo’s actions inadvertently led to three Salem super-villains, Xander (Paul Telfer), Clyde Weston (James Read), and Orpheus (George DelHoyo) to hold the town hostage, briefly.

Kate ended her relationship with Eduardo after finding out he’d kidnapped Sonny (Freddie Smith). Later, Rafe arrested his father for possession of stolen treasury bonds. No word yet on how Eduardo will be sprung from jail or if his scenes will take place behind a glass wall! Stay tuned for future details as they become available.

Days of our Lives History

DOOL made its debut in 1965 and is one of the longest-running daytime soap operas in American history. It has outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households. Needless to say, five decades of storylines have kept viewers locked in and wanting more.

From Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) evil schemes to Victor Kiriakis’s (John Aniston) one-liners to the epic love story of Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), DAYS knows how to entertain and keep fans coming back for more. Sadly, times are shifting and daytime soap operas are shrinking.

Bringing the Drama

It is one of only four remaining soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include General Hospital (GH), The Young and the Restless (YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). DAYS airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for air times.
