Jensen Ackles has been a staple on The CW as one of the leads of the series Supernatural. While that long-running show is coming to an end, Ackles – who started his TV career as Eric on Days of Our Lives – won’t be gone from our screens for very long.
Jensen Ackles: New Project
Amazon Prime Video is confirming the news that Ackles will be joining the cast of the hit series The Boys in season 3. The news first broke on Ackles’ Instagram account, where he has 8.1 million followers.
“I keep wondering what I’ll do… when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year,” posted Ackles, who was then presented with a trade paperback of The Boys. “Then it hit me.*volume ⬆️.” Watch for the former DAYS hunk to play the character of Soldier Boy, who is dubbed as the original Superhero. Following his efforts during World War II, Soldier Boy became the first super-celebrity.
“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream— to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” said Eric Kripke, showrunner and executive producer of The Boys.
“I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.”
Season 2 of The Boys will premiere on Friday, September 4th, with the release of three episodes. New episodes will be available each week through October 9th. Viewers can expect to see The Boys on the run from the law as they’re tracked down by the Supes.
The Boys is based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Ackles played Eric on Days of our Lives from 1997 to 2000. The character was off the canvas for 12 years, then returned in 2012 (with Greg Vaughan playing the part). Days of our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for air times.
