On Days of our Lives, Abe Carver uses his position of mayor to hand out honors to Salem’s finest citizens (as he recently did with Steve and Hope). His portrayer, James Reynolds, is about to take part in honoring someone in real life… and that someone is a beloved science fiction writer with their own ties to Salem.
James Reynolds Reveals New Project
The fan-favorite star recently took to Twitter, sharing an exciting new project that he’s taking part in on Saturday, August 22. He also revealed the special tie that it had to something else close to his heart– his Fremont Centre Theatre.
“I’m honored to be a reader for The Ray Bradbury Read-a-Thon,” shared Reynolds. “Celebrating Ray’s 100th birthday! @daysofourlives @nbcdays #RayBradburyCentennial #Days.”
The Bradbury Centennial is partnering with libraries and will bring people from across the United States together to take part in a live-streamed reading of his most famous work, Fahrenheit 451, on August 22 through September 5. Bradbury was an American science fiction writer whose works sold millions of copies around the world. Reynolds will be joining many other illustrious actors, including William Shatner. You can see the promo below.
“Tune In for the Ray Bradbury Read-A-Thon,” shared Reynolds, adding an interesting tie to the late writer. “Our theater was home to Ray’s company for over 5 years. I am proud to be a reader on this project.”
Bradbury also had a tie to Salem and the world of daytime drama in general. That’s because his third daughter, Bettina Bradbury, was a writer on Days of our Lives, as well as As The World Turns, All My Children (when the writing team won three Daytime Emmy Awards for Best Writing), One Life to Live, and Santa Barbara.
Ray Bradbury passed away at 91 on June 5, 2012, while Bettina passed away on January 13, 2019, at the age of 63. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
