Back in February, Soap Hub reported that Galen Gering had taped his last scenes as Rafe Hernandez, signaling the end of his twelve-year run on Days of our Lives. Nobody could have guessed that a month later, the entire cast would have taped their last scenes for quite a while.
Now Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the show is reversing course, and that Gering will be back on the set to tape new scenes when production resumes on September 1.
While we don’t yet know how Rafe was slated to be written off, we do know that we were supposed to be seeing the last of him soon. According to EW, that final exit is no longer happening. Will Rafe just leave town for a short while and come back by late fall? Time will tell, but he won’t be living life with Hope.
DAYS has enough completed episodes right now to last until October, and when those run out, the show will move on to newly taped installments sans Kristian Alfonso, who stated that she would not be returning after the pandemic hiatus.
Recent scenes have shown Hope and Rafe becoming close again, and it looks like they may want to rekindle their romance. With Alfonso leaving, though, Rafe might have to look elsewhere for a love interest.
This news comes on the heels of DAYS deciding to bring Camila Banus (Gabi) back to the set next month, as well. Like Gering, she had supposedly taped her last scenes, making us believe that the Hernandez family would be no more.
Apparently, show-runners have had a change of heart, and we will even see patriarch Eduardo Hernandez (A Martinez) on screen soon. Might Martinez also return to the set and make Eduardo a more permanent fixture in Salem? Once again, time will tell. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
