Back in the glory days of the 1980s, music and soap operas went hand in hand… and on Days of our Lives, Salem’s premier songstress was Liz Chandler, played by singer and actress Gloria Loring.

Liz sang the love songs for all of our favorite couples, including her own pairing with Dr. Neil Curtis (Joe Gallison). Her version of Willie Nelson’s ‘You Were Always On My Mind’ was Liz and Neil’s love song. She also gave other couples their romantic themes, including Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), and Kim (Patsy Pease) and Shane (Charles Shaughnessy).
Liz sang ‘Tonight I Celebrate My Love’ for Bo and Hope at Hope’s 18th birthday party… and her original song, ‘Friends and Lovers,’ not only became Shane and Kim’s theme, but also a top billboard hit for Loring and Carl Anderson in 1985.

Now all these years later, Loring is set to release her first EP on September 18, according to Soap Opera Digest. Titled ‘The Best of Me,’ the album will include covers of classic songs by various artists, including ‘Love Is Still The Answer’ by Burt Bacharach, and ‘Swansong’ by Bruce Hornsby.
Loring was once married to the late Alan Thicke, and their son is singer Robin Thicke. While her DAYS character of Liz has been off the canvas for decades, her name has come up again in recent years: She is the mother of Noel, Sarah’s (Lindsey Godfrey) half-sister by way of the same biological father, Neil. Liz was also great friends with Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers), and they have said they keep in touch with her… so there’s no reason why she can’t just return to town.
In fact, Liz was even married to Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) at one point, which could throw a wrench into his marriage to Anna (Leann Hunley) if the pair ever met up again. There are so many possibilities. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
