Fans of Sami Brady can rejoice, because it looks like Alison Sweeney will be joining her other Days of our Lives castmates when shooting resumes on the NBC soap opera in early September. While the show has continued to air all-new episodes – even as other shows had to air classics over the summer – DAYS is the last to return to production.
Alison Sweeney Set To Return
According to Deadline, Sweeney will be joining her DAYS castmates when the show returns to shooting. These will be the first new episodes to be completed since after the coronavirus pandemic shut down their set back in March, along with the rest of daytime, primetime, and many feature films.
“It is always a beautiful day in Salem when we get to welcome Alison Sweeney back to the canvas,” said Executive Producer Ken Corday in a statement in the above article. “Sami Brady is an integral part of our show’s history, and we are elated that she’s coming home again.”
The article also states that Sami will be back for an “emotional storyline” that involves her daughter Allie (Lindsay Arnold). “Under the new deal, she will appear in fresh Days Of Our Lives episodes, beginning in late 2020, though most of 2021,” reports Deadline.
The added bonus for “SAFE” fans is that Galen Gering is also scheduled to return to the soap. Could Rafe be coming back to be re-paired with Sami? There are many fans who would be thrilled if that were the case.
What’s also interesting to note is that Kristian Alfonso was originally thought to be leaving for five months and that she would be bringing Hope back to Salem with a new storyline. Could this have been arranged to free up money so that Sweeney could stay even longer?
Rotating out actors to free up money for short-term story arcs has been happening on DAYS for a while, usually as a means of mitigating the budget/renewal issues that the show faces. Has Alfonso’s decision not to return kept Sami in town longer? Stay tuned. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
