With Kate Mansi’s final “Days of Our Lives” last airdate fast approaching, we’ve wondered how we’ll see the beloved Abigail last. Now, it seems we won’t technically see her at all.
According to the June 20 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Mansi is wearing a mask during her last scene as Abby. Why we don’t know why she’s covering her face, Mansi admitted to the magazine that it wasn’t her favorite way to go out.
“I was disappointed,” the actress told Digest. “Truthfully, I think the abrupt script revisions with the mask were more a decision about Kate Mansi leaving than it was about the character of Abigail and that bothered me after all the work we put into telling this last story.”
Perhaps the show doesn’t want us to see Mansi’s familiar face as she exits the show to make the transition to a new Abby easier on fans. Marci Miller has been cast as Abigail and will debut this fall. On the idea of an Abby recast, Mansi was gracious.
“When I heard that they were going to be recasting, a quote instantly came to me,” she told Digest. “‘A candle by lighting another candle loses nothing.'”
Soap Hub wishes Mansi the best of luck of her future endeavors and looks forward to seeing what Miller brings to the beloved character.
