Every year that doesn’t have a pandemic (which is basically most years but this one), Days of our Lives is removed from the NBC schedule to make room for the French Open tennis tournament. This year will be different now that it has been announced the tournament will be postponed. There are a couple of ways this could move forward.
While fans may want DAYS to air new episodes on Monday, May 25, Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5; the three days it was supposed to be pre-empted, that’s easier said than done.
As Jason47 DAYS’ WebSite has pointed out, the show writes to have cliffhangers air when needed… and a big one is supposed to air on July 24 before the beginning of the Summer Olympics.
Of course, at the rate things are going, there is no way to be sure the Summer Olympics are still going to take place. But if they do, airing new episodes over those three days would ruin the slow build to that expected cliffhanger. So will DAYS show repeat episodes? Will NBC take back the timeslot for programming it wants to air?
As of right now, we only have questions. Not knowing the future of the Summer Olympics certainly doesn’t make this decision any easier for the powers that be at the network. Coronavirus has already caused just about all sports leagues, music acts, Broadway, films, TV (including soaps), to all shut down production.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the show never gets pre-empted. Even if it’s not seen the entire hour because of a press conference, the show has been diligent about putting the show on their app, as well as online. They stick to their dates like glue. But like so many things, it’s hard to plan in this new world ruled by the coronavirus.
While we don’t know yet what will happen those days or this summer, one thing is certain — and that is that the rest of the time, life in Salem will continue to be seen because the show has episodes already completed well into the fall.
When NBC and/or DAYS does reveal their plan for what will air during those days, Soap Hub will be sure to keep you informed. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
