Kate Mansi’s latest Days of our Lives stint is coming to an end, which means the soap’s writers were tasked with scripting another exit for her. With her Salem character suddenly exhibiting hallucinations, it looks like the show will be messing with Abigail’s sanity again, and that could be a big mistake.
Days of our Lives: Ground Hog Day
Abigail’s mental woes have become the go-to card to play every time Mansi opts to up and leave the soap. It’s become a way too easy fallback plan and, frankly, it’s getting redundant.
Couldn’t Abigail, who’s a reporter, have been sent off on a top-secret writing assignment? Or perhaps she could have left town to care for her ailing grandmother Laura for a while? Anything that would have kept her sane and well until Mansi’s ready to come back for another run.

Fierce or Fragile?
The concept of who Abigail truly is, at the core, has gotten incredibly foggy. Is she a weak, fragile, and unstable young woman, who Chad (Billy Flynn) and her family can never really count on? Or is she the strong heroine who stood up to the conniving Juliet in Paris and delved into Jennifer’s (Melissa Reeves) attempted murder in Salem?
The latter is the character fans love and adore. They want to root for her and Chad as the next generation of the powerful DiMera clan, but with the heart and integrity of the Hortons.
Chad in Limbo
Every time Abigail’s mental issues rear their ugly head, Chad is left in storyline limbo. He’s forced to play Mr. Mom to their children and can’t move on romantically, because of his devotion to Abigail and the pair’s supercouple status. Sure, he can still forge forward in the business world as he fights to maintain control of DiMera Enterprises, but he deserves so much more. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
