When Eric Brady was written off the Days of Our Lives canvas in the most uncharacteristic way this past winter, fans were devastated.
The former priest and perpetual good guy suddenly turned into a raging alcoholic apparently because Nicole (Arianne Zucker) decided she loved Daniel (Shawn Christian) and some formerly secret girlfriend named Serena (Melissa Archer) turned out to be a con–and then turned up dead. Sure, things were going wrong for Eric, but it still made no sense that he turned to alcohol and slid downhill so easy.
By New Year’s Eve, Eric had no trouble driving drunk, ended up in a three-car pileup, and Daniel ended up dead. After a drunken night of sex with new drug addict Jennifer (who hurt her back in the accident), Eric was sentenced to 10 years in prison–but now–SURPRISE–actor Greg Vaughan and Eric are returning to DAYS in early 2017. Soap Hub asked if you’re looking forward to this comeback and you had a resounding answer.
Welcome Back
Out of about 3,000 votes, 91% of you can’t wait to see Eric back in Salem so his abruptly began-and-ended romance with Jennifer has a chance. It seemed odd to develop this relationship of two lonely and needy people, just to cart Eric off to jail mid-story. Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) desperately needs a love interest, and there’s oodles more to explore here.
Stay Away
A much smaller 5% of you think Eric needs to stay behind bars where he belongs. What he did was a crime, and there’s no excuse for drunk driving. While your heart broke for Roman and Marlena the day he left to prison, you feel he needs to serve his time like anyone else.
The Jury Is Out
The final 4% are not sure what to make of his return. While you miss Vaughan and the Eric of yesteryear, you did not like the Eric who left our screens in March. If Eric returns a changed man, maybe you’ll welcome him back.
