Days of our Lives Casting Cuts: Chandler Massey, Freddie Smith Out

The cuts keep coming at Days of our Lives as actors have been learning they’re not getting new contracts after returning to the Salem set. Last week we learned Casey Moss and Galen Gering were let go. Now we know the latest casualties are Chandler Massey (Will) and Freddie Smith (Sonny).

More Days of our Lives Exits

Smith let the cat out of the bag on his YouTube channel. “Chandler and I were released from our contracts,” Smith said with sadness. “So, we will not be filming more episodes after this week.”

He told fans that Massey would be stopping by his place in the coming days to record an episode for his YouTube channel. He also told us that he and Massey knew things didn’t look good for their status on the show as they read their scripts.

Sonny and Will made daytime history as the first male gay soap couple to ever wed. And both Massey and Smith have left the show before. Massey was recast with Guy Wilson and later Smith left after Wilson’s Will was killed off. (Of course, we later learned that Dr. Rolf brought Will back to life when Massey returned to the soap to reunite with Smith.)

In our current story (taking place in Salem’s 2021), Will is in jail for killing Sonny’s mother, Adrienne, and Sonny is moving on with sketchy manny, Evan. Will did just learn he did not kill Adrienne after all. Does that mean a reunion is imminent?

Does that also mean Will and Sonny will leave Salem together and go off into the sunset or will something terrible befall them? In his video, Smith said he can’t reveal that as he won’t give away any spoilers. So, time will tell.

And that will be a lot of time, considering that DAYS tapes about eight months in advance. Smith revealed the last airdate for himself and Massey will be September 18.
