A mainstream media report is stating the Days of Our Lives cast may be getting a break after Thanksgiving, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of this classic soap. In fact, rumor has it the show will get a new lease on life.
Don’t Count Days of Our Lives Out
TV Line has published a story stating the contracts for DAYS cast members are all ending later this month in anticipation of a hiatus. The long-running soap’s current deal is to produce episodes through the end of August 2020. Because of the show’s lengthy lead time, DAYS will complete those shows later this month.
With no new deal to produce additional episodes (for now), the actors at DAYS are all going off-contract. NBC has been renewing DAYS annually for years now. But at press time, there’s been no word on a renewal to take the show beyond the end of next summer.
The TV Line article stated: “While the NBC sudser has not been canceled, the unprecedented … move comes at a precarious time for ratings-challenged DAYS and the vanishing soap genre as a whole. It also comes as Sony Pictures Television and NBC are in negotiations to renew series.”
Soap Hub has reached out to both Sony Pictures Television and DAYS for comment. Sony declines to comment at this time. At press time, there was no response from DAYS. Moving forward, the best-case scenario is that NBC and Sony renew the series, and then, new deals will be offered to the cast and other personnel and the show will continue.
Because DAYS is so far ahead in production, the show could return as late as next spring or early summer in order to have episodes ready for September 2020 so there would be no interruption on-screen.
And if a new deal is put into place sooner rather than later, the show could resume production with episodes beyond its current production order before the end of the year.
However, as the TV Line article points out, once actors are off contract, they’re free to pursue other work and migrate to other daytime shows. The mood at the recent Day of DAYS fan event was very upbeat and Soap Hub was there and can attest to that.
Actors seemed especially cheerful and optimistic about the future. As soon as details become available, Soap Hub will keep you updated. Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check local listings for air times.
