The year started off somber for Days of our Lives actor Bryan Dattilo, as his father-in-law, Dr. Colonel Andy Cameron, passed away on January 7 at the Renown Regional Medical Center at the age of 74.
The actor, who married Cameron’s daughter Elizabeth in 2011, took to social media to remember this heroic relative.
“The world lost a great man,” Dattilo wrote on Twitter, above a photo of his father-in-law in uniform. “Dr. Colonel Andy Cameron. My father in law. A hero dedicated to saving lives. He [loved] his family, his country, the Dodgers, and Springer Spaniels. In that order.”
In Cameron’s official obituary, it notes he was born in SoCal but lived in numerous places due to his father being in the Navy. He eventually settled down in Reno. He graduated from UNR with a bachelor’s in science and received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico.
He spent nearly three decades as an emergency room doctor and also served as a military doctor as a member of the National Guard. He rose to the rank of Colonel after serving tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
As Dattilo made note of in his tweet, when Cameron wasn’t working, he was a huge sports fan and held an annual sports medicine baseball fantasy camp for years. He was a regular at the local Wolf Pack basketball and minor league baseball games and loved watching his Dodgers play.
Cameron was known by family and friends for his wonderful sense of humor, and generous and compassionate nature. He’s survived by his wife Zewdie, daughters Susan and Elizabeth, and sisters Jan and Pat. SoapHub sends our best to Dattilo and his family during this sad time.
