Our Days Take: Do We Really Have to Say Goodbye?

The time is nearing when we’ll have to say goodbye to both John-Paul Lavoisier (Philip) and Martha Madison (Belle) on Days of Our Lives — but why? Both characters have seemingly endless possibilities — with both each other and other characters in Salem.

Triangle With Others
Lavoisier’s Philip has been a lifesaver in what could have turned into a dreary and predictable love triangle (quadrangle now?) between Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin), Deimos (Vincent Irizarry), and Nicole (Arianne Zucker), complete with a pregnant pause. His charisma makes him one of the few capable of going toe-to-toe with Deimos, while the character’s history with Chloe makes their current charade believable. Add to the mix Philip’s unpredictable mother, Kate (Lauren Koslow), and you have a bona fide winner of a story on your hands. This just started getting interesting but with Lavoisier already finished taping his scenes, it will be nipped in the bud way too soon.

Madison’s sympathetic Belle lends gravitas to any scene, whether it’s comforting devastated friends like Chad (Billy Flynn) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves), or helping daughter Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) navigate her way into adulthood. Her scenes with client and friend Chad have been especially poignant, with sparks between to two actors apparent. Having these two start an illicit affair just as Abigail makes her way back could have made for some fascinating viewing.

Triangle Together
Philip was right — Belle shouldn’t be tamed and he knew how to light her fire. Yet, it was tragic to see them together because everyone knew how hurt their childhood best friend  — and Belle’s ex-husband, Shawn — would be if they did end up together. DAYS could have mined this triangle for a lot longer.

Here’s hoping Days of Our Lives changes its mind ASAP and realizes these two were a part of stories actually going right on the show.
