It’s November sweeps, and there hasn’t been a dull moment on Days of Our Lives (DOOL). From the look of the soap’s fall preview promo, it also doesn’t look like there’s a dull moment coming up.
With Sami (Alison Sweeney) back, Will (Chandler Massey) back, and Susan Banks (Eileen Davidson) back, anything can happen and already has. Susan is as out-of-her-mind as ever, Will seems to be drinking out of the same whiskey bottle, and Sami can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble–or jail.
Eve (Kassie DePaiva) is also back in town sparring with Brady (Eric Martsolf) and trying to take over the Kiriakis mansion for herself.
With all that high camp, there’s definitely a reason to smile when we take an hour-long ride into Salem each day, but somehow the soap has managed to mix in the serious with all the insanity.
Theo (Kyler Pettis), an African-American young man wearing a hoodie and carrying a handheld scanning device, was shot. As we know, that is a ripped-from-the-headlines story as unarmed African-American men being shot has dominated the news for several years now.
What makes this story more compelling is that a family friend and a character we care about shot him. In fact, the cop who pulled the trigger is dating Theo’s sister, giving this the soap twist we all love with that bit of harsh reality thrown into the mix.
Even DAYS actors have taken to social media to express how important they feel this story is.
It’s rare that a soap can give us the fantastical mixed with gritty reality and do it so well, but it looks like DAYS is going to pull it off and for that we commend them.
