In the 1980s on Days Of Our Lives (DOOL), supercouples ruled the airways.
There were Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), Kim (Patsy Pease) and Shane (Charles Shaughnessy), Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Roman (then-Wayne Northrup), and right there in the mix were Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans).
They fought crime! They traveled to exotic locales! They faced obstacles like her marrying his brother, Jack (Matthew Ashford), and Kayla’s traumatic deafness and muteness, which miraculously went away just as she and Steve were exchanging wedding vows!
Nowadays, though, they… uhm… drink coffee. And go to work. And talk about their son, Joe. And Steve’s son, Tripp (Dalton Adams). And drink more coffee.
Does this one-time sizzling, front-burner couple need a real story of their own? Almost 6,000 viewers recalled the good old DAYS.
The Geometry of Love Triangles
That time Steve dumped Kayla so she could marry Jack because Steve thought his brother was dying of Hodgkins’ Disease (and Steve still remembered promising his baby brother, Billy, that he would always look out for him, even as the tot was given up for adoption — there were flashbacks and everything!), was enough, fume 60% of you.
Steve and Kayla do deserve a story of their own, but under no circumstances should it be a love triangle!
Outstanding Supporting Actors
Things are pretty good the way they are, counter 37% of the audience. You’re cool with Steve and Kayla supporting their kids and their friends, and leaving the angst to other characters. You prefer them finally happy after all these years.
Give Us Anything!
Triangle, square, pentagon, 2% of you don’t care what the story is, just as long as Steve and Kayla are back on the front burner where they belong!
