Chad’s tipped from grief into full “something’s not right here” on Days of Our Lives, and fair enough. Abby’s body seems to be gone without a trace, EJ’s hiding science experiments like it’s a hobby, and that pod the police found suddenly looks a lot less innocent than it should. Chad thinks Abby could be in there, or at least tied to whatever EJ and Dr. Rolf are cooking up, and once that idea takes hold, there’s no easing him out of it. Conner Floyd gets exactly why Chad’s head goes there, and he didn’t walk into the role blind.

Key Takeaways

  • Floyd says he understood Chad’s history through Billy Flynn’s guidance.
  • Chad’s grief over Abigail is permanent and unresolved.
  • EJ’s pod and Abby’s missing body reignite Chad’s hope.
  • Floyd describes Chad’s mindset as shifting from hope to obsession.

Chad Can’t Let Go of Abigail, No Matter What

Floyd spoke to This Week In Soaps and was pretty clear that he understood what he was stepping into. “I wasn’t around for the Abigail storylines, but I understand the weight of it all,” he said, crediting Billy Flynn for helping him get there by filling him in on the backstory. That history is the whole reason behind how Chad reacts to everything now.

He didn’t soften it either when it came to where Chad is emotionally. “I think that’s a hole in Chad’s heart that’s never gonna be filled,” Floyd explained. He further noted that Chad has truly moved on, “but there’s always going to be Abigail lingering around.” That’s not closure, that’s something he’s learned to live with, and it doesn’t take much to crack it open again.

Which is exactly what this situation does. You’ve got Lexie (Nikki Crawford) suddenly back in the conversation, you’ve got a missing body, and you’ve got EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) acting like he’s got something to hide. Chad doesn’t need proof. He just needs a possibility, and once he’s got that, he’ll run with it.

The Idea of Abby Being Alive Pushes Chad Too Far

Floyd leaned into how quickly that possibility turns into something bigger in Chad’s head. “Any kind of idea that she could possibly be coming back, as far-fetched as that may seem, he’s stuck on it,” he said. That’s the shift right there, from wondering to believing, and there’s not much space between the two for him.

From there, it becomes all-consuming. “The idea gets in his head, and he’s locked in on it,” Floyd added, describing how Chad starts questioning everyone around him. Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews) gets pulled in, EJ definitely gets pulled in, and suddenly Chad isn’t asking questions so much as chasing answers he’s already decided are true.

And that’s where it turns. “He loves her so much that the peace in his mind that he’s made with this kind of comes unbroken,” Floyd said. The acceptance he had starts to slip, replaced by this need to prove she’s still out there. That’s not curiosity anymore. That’s a man pulling himself right back into something he barely survived the first time.
