It doesn’t matter what the Days of our Lives writers put Chanel through because Raven Bowens can handle it all. Ever since she replaced Precious Way as Chanel DuPree over two years ago, the character’s been through a lot. A devil possessed her husband and destroyed their marriage. She was the center of an angsty love triangle with twin siblings. Somebody drugged her Sweet Bits biscuits!
Raven Bowens: Chemistry All-Star
Bowens is beyond good whether Chanel’s instigating trouble or attracting it. For this, we feel she’s become one of DAYS’ MVPs, especially in the younger set.
Not sure how she does it, but the actress manages to have chemistry with everyone — man or woman. It’s kind of her superpower. When Chanel and Carson Boatman’s Johnny DiMera finally reunited we cheered. Their chemistry is off the charts and always has been. But so was her chemistry with Lindsay Arnold aka Johnny’s twin sister, Allie Horton.
Bowens’s uncanny ability to click with her fellow actors even helps sell doomed attempts at relationships like the one Chanel recently ended with Talia (Aketra Sevillian) and the blink-and-you-missed-it moment Chanel once shared with Tripp (Lucas Adams). What’s her secret?
Chanel Dupree: Likable and Rootable
Bowens adds a layer of maturity to her performances that go beyond what’s written on the page. In Bowens’ capable hands, the Sweet Bits owner is sexy, complex, empathetic, joyous, flawed and ultimately rootable
Take that whole mess with Sloan and her brother enacting their separate revenge plots against her. At the end of the day, Chanel was involved with a married authority figure who had no business sleeping with his student. But her affair with Sloan and Colin’s father led to the death of their mom. Despite a shady cover-up courtesy of Chanel’s powerhouse mother Paulina Price (Jackée Harry), we could have written Chanel off but we didn’t. We were Team Chanel the entire time and you can thank Bowens for that.
Raven Bowens: Not one for the Sidelines
Chanel is a character who constantly creates waves in Salem. If she’s not at the center of one triangle (Johnny/Chanel/Allie), she’s the center of another triangle (Johnny/Chanel/Talia). The bakery owner’s fun to watch and she has heart. That must be why Head Writer Ron Carlivati and his team continually come up with story for the talented actress. Let’s hope this trend holds now that Janel’s back together (no more love triangles please!). Bowens deserves the world. We know it and hopefully the show knows it, too.
