Let’s see if we have this straight, Days of our Lives. Konstantin came to Salem to seduce Maggie into falling in love with him, marrying him, and presumably handing all of Victor’s money over to him. This digression into Konstantin’s history with The Pawn and the previously unmentioned now-dead Catharina only came after he’d arrived and put his plan into action. And what a terrible plan it is!
Starting Line
It began well. Konstantin (John Kapelos) wormed his way into Maggie’s (Suzanne Rogers) home with stories of his and Victor’s (John Aniston) happy childhood, their bond as adults, and, oh, yeah, here’s a Greek tablecloth. Konstantin then set himself up to play hero by arranging for Theresa (Emily O’Brien) to kidnap baby Victoria — so that Konstantin could be the hero and “rescue” the infant. So far so good. So why has he lost the narrative?
Screw Up
Konstantin has to know that for Maggie to accept him, her daughter, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) has to accept him. Does Konstantin really think the way to do that is to throw racial insults at Sarah’s baby daddy, Xander (Paul Telfer) — in front of Maggie? How will pissing off her granddaughter’s father endear Konstantin to Maggie? Has he ever bamboozled before? We’re starting to wonder.
Out of the Past
We would cut Konstantin some slack if we believed that he’d really come to Salem to get revenge on John (Drake Hogysten) and Steve (Stephen Nichols), and Maggie was just his way in. Now that John and Steve are onto him, Konstantin doesn’t have to fake affection for her anymore. But that’s not it. He still wants Maggie’s money.
Which makes the John side quest a distraction from Konstantin’s real goals. Put down that card. You’ve lived without Catharina for at least 40 years, and doing something to John won’t bring her back. Eyes on the prize, fortune hunter. Before you screw up so badly no tablecloth or faked broken ankle can keep you in Maggie’s good graces.
