What’s With This Repeated Fake Out On Days of our Lives?

In just the past few weeks on Days of our Lives, Tripp and Wendy have announced that they are leaving town. And then they didn’t. Theresa announced that she was leaving town. And then she didn’t. What does DAYS think it’s doing? And why?

First Up

Wendy’s (Victoria Grace) brother, Li (Remington Hoffman) was killed. (Does anyone still care who did it? Gabi [Camila Banus] is in prison, awaiting trial. But she swears she didn’t do it. Stefan [Brandon Barash] believes her. Is this story ever going to be resolved? No? Cool, cool, cool.) Wendy’s father, Mr. Shin (Clyde Kusatsu) is, we’re told, very sad about it. (Does he have a first name?) So Wendy’s mother (she definitely has no first name) pressured Wendy to move back to “China.” Wendy agreed.

Tripp (Lucas Adams) insisted on going with her. He even told his mother, Ava (Tamara Braun), that he and Wendy were moving to “Hong Kong”). (Considering the international debate over the two places, that was quite a bold political position DAYS took, equating Hong Kong with China. We didn’t know they had it in them.) After saying good-bye to their Salem family and friends, Wendy and Tripp…changed their minds. And that was that. Was that supposed to be a story for the couple?

Grieving Mother

Theresa (Emily O’Brien) is so upset about Tate (Jamie Martin Mann) being arrested that first, she got high, and then she announced that she’d be leaving town. Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) told her not to. Theresa cried and beat her breast and insisted she was a bad person. (Does she realize she’ll still be a bad person in a different location?) Alex told her she wasn’t. And then they had sex. And then Theresa agreed to stay. Was that supposed to be a storyline for the couple?

Method To My Madness

These fake-outs are, presumably, written to create tension where tension doesn’t currently exist. The irony is, it’s not necessary. Wendy and Tripp can have a story dealing with Li’s murder — or with Ava’s new career as a drug dealer. Theresa and Alex can have a story about how she has ruined his entire life and that secret needs to come out. Those are what fans are truly interested in. Not their travel plans. Which end up not even coming to fruition.
