Three Cheers For Two Days of our Lives Scenes With Heart

It’s hard to tell these days, in light of the soap within a soap, the poisoned biscuits, the brainwashing, and the aftereffects of demonic possession, but once upon a time, Days of our Lives used to be about family. The Horton family. The Williams family. The Brady family. The Johnson family. The Hernandez family. The Carver family. And, last week, we were treated to two of examples of the magic that happens when DAYS remembers its history and its heart.

Days of our Lives: Tell Her About It

Viewers didn’t get to see Abe’s (James Reynolds) memorial service. We just got to hear people talk about how awesome it was. That’s OK. We know he’s not really dead, so it’s no big deal. But what we did get was to hear Theo (Cameron Johnson) rehearsing his eulogy in front of Paulina (Jackée Harry).

What a treat it was to see Paulina take a break from shrieking and making hysterical pronouncements to take it down a notch and play loving stepmother to Theo. We got to hear his heartfelt words about his father, and we got to see two people who love Abe make a connection. That almost made up for not seeing the church filled with people that Brady (Eric Marstolf) and Belle (Martha Madison) assured us totally happened.

Those Were the DAYS

On a lighter note, Steve (Stephen Nichols) tried to give his son romantic advice when Tripp (Lucas Adams) lamented that Wendy (Victoria Grace) was about to choose Johnny (Carson Boatman) over him. (Spoiler: She didn’t.)

But, as it turned out, Steve’s advice proved a little outdated. When he told Tripp that, back in Steve’s day, men didn’t walk away from the women they loved, Tripp countered, “Was I supposed to refuse to leave her apartment?” He also added, “I don’t plan to challenge Johnny to a duel.”

Tripp offered the radical idea that women should be trusted to know their own minds. Steve agreed. Yes, sure, of course, absolutely. There’d be no toxic masculinity in the Johnson household. Girl Power! Ally! But we could see that Steve did kind of miss the good old days, even as he understood what Tripp was saying. It was yet another moment of sweet, intergenerational connection. Which reminded us of the true good, old DAYS.
