Bo Brady has no memory of his life before waking up to Megan’s brain-washing on Days of our Lives. For years now, he’s simply lived to serve her. What a good man! But now, he’s starting to get glimpses of his past. And not just his past, but the woman who has dominated it for almost 40 years. But it’s not just Bo who is getting these glimpses. It’s us, too. And we couldn’t be happier.
Days of our Lives: Unique Selling Proposition
When soaps want to do a flashback, they don’t have to slather makeup over 40-year-old actors and insist we pretend they’re 20, like primetime shows do. And they don’t need to hire a whole new set of actors, like the movies. Or, worse, use that weird de-aging technology that makes everyone look like an Uncanny Valley special effect.
No, when soaps want to do a flashback, they…do a flashback. Bo (Peter Reckell) read about his biological father, Victor (John Aniston). And we saw both in a series of classic scenes.
Bo Brady: Love of My Life
And when Bo read about the undisputed love of his life, Hope (Kristian Alfonso), we got to see what he was remembering. Bo and Hope on a boat. Bo and Hope in the park. Bo and Hope in bed. And Bo and Hope on the back of a motorcycle as he sweeps her away from her wedding to Larry Welch. In other words: The real Bo and Hope.
More Not Less
We realize that Bo, as a mime traumatized many people and prompted them to remember a scene they’d repressed. But we should not let that keep us from asking for more flashbacks. We demand to see Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Steve (Stephen Nichols) flashbacks once they’re finally reunited. And the same for John (Drake Hogysten) and Marlena (Deidre Hall). It’s what soaps do best. So do it!
