Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of January 27-31 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless.
Top 10 Hits and Misses
10. HIT: Sharon says goodbye to Ghost Cameron (Y&R). While we’re cool with Sharon no longer having visions of Cameron, we must admit we’re going to miss Linden Ashby’s pop-ups. He and Sharon Case are wonderful in their scenes together. And while Sharon saying goodbye to Ghost Cameron was kind of weird, it was kind of wonderful at the same time.
9. MISS: Laura backs out of testifying for Ava (GH). Suddenly, Laura (Genie Francis) empathizes with Sonny (Maurice Benard) again. So, apparently, Ava (Maura West) can no longer count on her support during the custody trial. Ava has every right to have her child with her, especially after the explosion that rocked Sonny’s penthouse.

8. MISS: Something’s in the air (B&B). We get the allure of Daphne Rose (Murielle Hilaire). She’s the premiere nose in Paris and beyond. Whenever she walks into a room, people are mesmerized by the woman and her scent. Can we scale back the characters taking a whiff of the air when she’s in the vicinity?
7. HIT: Dante’s reaction to hearing that Sam was murdered (GH). As soon as Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) heard that Sam (ex-Kelly Monaco) was murdered, he quickly processed it and then went into manic mode. He looked like he was shaking from anger and guilt. That scene in the office with Anna (Finola Hughes) showed Dante’s emotions out of control. Did he really think he’d be able to work Sam’s case? And then, at the Quartermaine stables, he couldn’t stop moving. Dominic Zamprogna is so good.
6. MISS: Marlena confided in Leo (DAYS). As fun as their conversations are, Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Leo (Greg Rikaart) can’t be trusted friends. He’s her client! And sure, they tried to explain that he hadn’t had a session in a while. But their ensuing conversation sounded more like doctor/client and less like besties.

5. HIT: The Carly and Brennan Kiss (GH). It was hot, and, more importantly, that kiss was earned. Laura Wright and Charles Mesure are good together.
4. HIT: Holly and Doug III (DAYS). Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Doug 3 (Peyton Meyer) are super adorable. And they’re beginning to become friends. We love the way they confide in each other and support each other.
3. MISS: Tessa and Aria are safe and sound (Y&R). When Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Aria (Maddie & Millie Ingle) are missing, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) goes to Defcon 1. Ian (Ray Wise) is out there, wreaking havoc and making a big deal about how he returned for Mariah. His presence triggered Mariah big time, and she blamed herself for everything that had happened since Ian popped back up in Genoa City. Then Tessa and Aria showed up at Sharon’s, and Tessa told a tale of going for what turned out to be a disastrous drive. And that was it. They weren’t in danger from Ian at all. This could have been a great story for Mariah and Tessa, and it just sort of went nowhere.

2. HIT: Finn grilling Poppy (B&B). While we can’t believe this story may be headed where it’s headed, we were here for Finn (Tanner Novlan) grilling Poppy (Romy Park). Somebody needs to extract the truth out of her once and for all. The tale of Who’s Luna’s (Lisa Yamada) father has been going on for what feels like forever. So Finn grilling Poppy about their shared past was welcome. And he took a page out of his mother’s book. When Poppy continued to lie, he decided to perform a paternity test.
1. HIT: Mariah talks to Ian. (Y&R). When everybody thought Ian was dead and his body was being wheeled out of the Newman Ranch, Mariah got the chance to talk to Ian’s body and shared her thoughts about this whole ordeal. While it was painful to watch, we were so happy that she could get this off her chest. You could see the other actors in the scene watching Camryn Grimes completely nail her performance. Let’s hope Grimes gets herself a Daytime Emmy nod for her recent performances.
Honorable Mentions:
DAYS
HIT: The women’s bachelorette party and EJ celebrates Real Rafe’s birthday. These two parties couldn’t have been more different. The women’s bachelorette shindig was what a party should be. The characters had fun, connected with silly conversations, and imbibed many jello shots. Meanwhile, the party of two EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) engineered for Rafe’s birthday was kinda hilarious. The way EJ taunted a tied-up Rafe (Galen Gering) with a birthday hat and muffin. And Rafe got a gift. He got to clock EJ and knock him out.
MISS: Real Rafe recaptured. Unfortunately, Rafe, weakened as he was, didn’t hightail it out of the DiMera mansion after breaking free. He met EJ’s assistant Rita (Maggie Carney), whose return was a HIT. He also met her taser.
Y&R
MISS: Ian wakes up in the ambulance (Y&R). Why? And how long before he returns to cause more death and destruction?
MISS: Nick and Adam. We’re a sucker for when these two get along. But the conversation in the car hit us the wrong way. Nick (Joshua Morrow) basically said that his and Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) feelings about Adam are based on the way he’s behaving. That, to us, makes it seem like there’s no unconditional love between the siblings. It’s very conditional, which is why Adam worried about life without Victor (Eric Braeden). Plus Nick warning Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) about Adam (Mark Grossman) was uncalled for.
B&B
HIT: Luna makes a key observation about Poppy. “You know, I’ve come to realize that my mom is a compulsive liar. I don’t think she even realizes it when she’s doing it.” Poppy can’t stop lying, and if Finn turns out to be Luna’s father, then Li (Naomi Matsuda) was right about Poppy all along. And that’s a HIT as well.
MISS: Sheila and Il Giardino. Why do characters need to make sure Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) isn’t at Il Giardino? Go somewhere else to eat. There has to be another restaurant in Los Angeles!

GH
MISS: Kristina wants to keep Avery from Ava. We get that Kristina (Kate Mansi) blames Ava for the loss of the baby she carried. But to be so hyped about keeping Ava away from her daughter isn’t the flex she thinks it is.
HIT: Drew gets nowhere with Jordan and Curtis. Jordan (Tanisha Harper) and Curtis (Donnell Turner) tag-teaming Drew (Cameron Mathison) over the Port Charles Esplanade was great. First, Drew must be a superpowered Congressman if he’s already making things difficult for Aurora and holding up the creation of a park. He just got sworn in. Also, there has to be a point where Drew realizes he’s alienating the entire town, right? He keeps on asking about how his actions are any worse than those of every other Quartermaine. And they aren’t. But everybody had to deal with the fallout. You don’t just get to skip over it.
