In back-to-back-to-back episodes, Lauren Koslow got to not only inhabit a brand new, larger-than-life character but also tap into rarely explored dimensions of her established alter-ego.
First, it was out with the old and in with the new. Rather than pot stirrer Kate Roberts, Koslow was playing Margo Linley playing Lorna DeLorean, Body and Soul‘s uber bitch. “So larger than life. So over-the-top. So outrageous that Susan Lucci and Heather Locklear fired their agents.”
Bewigged, bejeweled, and wrapped in fur, Koslow groused that the champagne she’d just sipped was burned [a sendup to a classic Dynasty quote] then purred into a nearby looking glass, “Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who’s the most unstoppable of them all?”
In the B&S world, despicable Lauren was out to con Charlemagne de la Croix out of her vast fortune with the aid of employee Randy Jones whom she charged with impersonating Lord Kyle Von Furstenburg, Charlemagne’s illegitimate son.
No less fanciful was the task that Kate decided to undertake: confront brainwashed Harris Michaels (Steve Burton) and get to the bottom of why he suddenly reneged on his promise to disappear Megan DiMera (Miranda Wilson) and targeted Stefan (Brandon Barash) for assassination.
Koslow entered the scene embittered and combative. Her insults stung like a scorpion’s tail. But just as quickly as she’d come in guns blazing, Koslow softened. She pumped warmth into her voice. She managed to be firm but friendly in the face of Harris’ vitriol.
In Kate’s attempts to reach the man that she knew was buried deep beneath the bluster, Lauren Koslow showed a side of her character that’s rarely seen — and it was a most welcome diversion.
