Soap Hub Performer Of The Week For DAYS: Billy Flynn

Between portraying a character who’d appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner, and steering that same character through a cathartic conversation with a loved one who wasn’t really there, DAYS star Billy Flynn truly earned the kudos that come in the shape of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week award.

Billy Flynn — Performer Of The Week

Flynn’s first order of business was to present as cool, calm, and collected when his alter-ego was anything but – he didn’t quite succeed. Chad DiMera was just too much a seething cauldron of rage to get anything past his prying kin. When EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) continued to push, Chad dismissed him with a curt, venom-filled, “Go to Hell.”

In the hopes of achieving clarity and some form of satisfaction, Chad set about abducting Abigail Deveraux DiMera’s (Marci Miller) murderer at gunpoint, dragging him to her grave, and demanding that he give an account of the night that Abby was slain. Clyde Weston (James Read) complied; Chad was not contented. And how could he have been?

It turns out that Chad lost his wife because she’d been at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and obstinate until her bitter end. “I took our kids to a movie. We were eating popcorn and laughing while you were [killing] her,” Flynn explained/questioned through gritted teeth, tears welled in his eyes. “Did you enjoy it?” Chad wondered aloud. When Clyde failed to respond, Chad/Flynn bellowed the question again. Still no response.

Instead, Clyde how more explaining to do — like why he next targeted Chad’s good friend Sonny Kiriakis (Zach Tinker). That was merely a means to an end, with that end being framing Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) for the series of stabbings.

Ironically it took tussling with, and nearly being throttled to death by Clyde — only to be saved by EJ who pumped a bullet into Clyde’s back — for Chad to achieve a moment of peace.

True, release came later, during an emotional farewell between Chad and Abigail. Billy Flynn and Marci Miller were pitch perfect, a duo so at ease with one another, so acutely aware that they had to bring their all to scenes that very well might be the last they play together. The fictional couple’s parting was such sweet sorrow, but it was pure delight for Days of our Lives fans.
