Abigail (Kate Mansi) had been traumatized by Ben, who was revealed as the Necktie Killer. He had murdered multiple people and kidnapped her while she was pregnant with what he believed was his child. Though Ben was eventually captured and institutionalized, he escaped from a psychiatric hospital and showed up at the DiMera mansion, where Abigail was living with Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and their baby, Thomas.

Terrified and believing that Ben was there to harm her and her child, Abigail took matters into her own hands. She overpowered Ben, tied him to the bed, and, in a fit of fear and rage, set the bed on fire. Chad arrived just in time to put out the flames before Ben could be fatally burned.

In July 2018, Clare (Olivia Rose Keegan) knocked Ben unconscious in the loft she shared with Ciara and Tripp (Lucas Adams), after he was released from the a psychiatric hospital, claiming he had been reformed.

In February of 2019, an unhinged Jordan (Chrishell Stause) tried to kill Ben in order to protect Ciara.

In September of 2019, Victor (the late John Aniston), who disapproved of Ben’s relationship with his niece, Ciara, orchestrated Ben’s kidnapping. He had Xander (Paul Telfer) tie Ben to a chair in the Kiriakis mansion and threatened his life, demanding Ben end his relationship with Ciara. When Ben refused, Xander hesitated to kill him, prompting Victor to attempt the act himself before being stopped by Brady (Eric Martsolf).

In May of 2020, Ben was severely beaten in Jake’s (Brandon Barash) garage. While working there, Ben was confronted by two thugs seeking to send a message to Jake, who was temporarily away. Mistaking Ben for Jake, the assailants attacked him, using a crowbar and leaving him unconscious. Ciara discovered Ben’s battered form upon arriving, prompting her to seek medical assistance.

Ben almost died from a lethal injection when he was found guilty of killing Jordan in July of 2020. Luckily, Ciara arrived just in time to stop the execution, claiming it was Evan (Brock Kelly) who actually had killed Jordan. This was one of the most intense moments in Ben’s redemption arc, further cementing his status as a reformed character.

Just a month later, in July of 2020, following the explosion at the church where Ben and Ciara were getting married, Ben was kidnapped by Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva). Eve’s plan was to force Ben to murder Ciara, hoping to break them apart and get her revenge.

As Eve’s control over Ben increased, Ciara worked tirelessly to rescue him. She eventually found out what Eve was doing and managed to free Ben from her control.

In a moment of high tension, Shawn confronted Ben at a remote cabin, where he tried to strangle him in a fit of rage and fear, feeling he was protecting Ciara and their unborn child. Ciara intervened just in time, stopping Shawn and trying to reason with him, as she still firmly believed in Ben’s reformation and his commitment to her and their future family.

In April 2022, Ben was chained to a wall in the DiMera crypt as part of a supernatural plot. Chad was haunted by the spirit of his brother Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis), who had been killed earlier. Andre’s spirit began to possess Chad, using him to carry out his vengeful desires. As a result, Chad, under Andre’s possession, kidnapped Ben and locked him in the crypt, chaining him to the wall. Ciara was able to find and rescue Ben.

In April of 2022, Allie (Lindsay Arnold) broke Evan out of jail and he promptly knocked Ben out.

A short time later, Evan tried to kill Ciara in the hospital and Ben intervened, almost being killed in the process.
