On the Couch: Why DAYS’ Theresa Donovan Is All About Herself

Shouldn’t Tate Black’s arrest be more about her these DAYS?

We don’t deny that Theresa Donovan is upset about Tate’s arrest on Days of our Lives. He is her son and she definitely loves him. Yet we also can’t help noticing that Theresa has made Tate’s arrest all about herself. When Alex suggested asking Andrew for help, Theresa dismissed that her brother wouldn’t help her son because he thinks Tate is a screw-up — just like he thinks Theresa is a screw-up — and he won’t do anything for her. (This, is after Andrew lied about her role in kidnapping Victoria. But we digress.)

On The Couch: Theresa Donovan

When Eric came over, Theresa instantly launched into a self-pitying screed about how Eric wasn’t thinking about her and how she felt. Why is she so convinced she is the principal player in this drama? Get on the couch, Theresa, for some Soap Hub head-shrinking!

Central Casting

Theresa (Emily O’Brien) was born on-screen (when her name was Jeannie), but mom Kimberly (Patsy Pease) and dad Shane (Charles Shaughnessy) moved out of town with the kids while she was still a tot. When she returned as an adult, she had a serious case of low self-esteem and raging “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” syndrome.

Theresa is always convinced that she is getting the short end of the stick. Mommy and Daddy love Andrew more. Brady (Eric Marstolf) was only with her because she was pregnant. And, Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) wouldn’t love her if he knew she’d lied about a major aspect of his life. Boo-hoo, it’s so unfair.

Look at Me

And now, with Tate (Jamie Martin Mann) standing trial as an adult, Theresa really can’t understand why everyone is focusing so much on his trauma and not on what having a son in prison is doing to her. Theresa is upset. Theresa is hurting. Our Theresa is suffering. Isn’t that worth paying attention to?

Sure, Eric (Greg Vaughan) came over to give her a hug and a rosary, and Alex offered his brand of comfort. Brady is standing by them both, but he seems focused on Tate. After everything Theresa had been through, she couldn’t handle that. If Theresa isn’t the center of attention, she might as well not exist. Why is no one understanding this?
