Everyone in Salem has pretty short memories. Crimes aren’t just swept under the rug, they are downright flushed down a black memory hole. How else could Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) still be walking the streets? Or Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) for all those years? Or Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) only a few months ago? Or Bonnie Lockhart Kiriakis (Judi Evans)? Or Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker)? Or Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart)? Or Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston)?
Ah, yes, Victor. Sarah’s (Linsay Godfrey) stepfather. Maggie’s husband. Whom Maggie married despite decades of his evil deeds, both personal and professional.
Days of our Lives: Straight Talk
Maggie didn’t diminish what Xander (Paul Telfer) had done to Sarah or, rather what he did to Bonnie, and, worse, to Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk). But she did share her own experiences with loving – and forgiving – a man who refuses to walk the straight and narrow, no matter how many times he promises to do so.
Maggie talked about love and understanding. Under most circumstances, we would have dismissed it as just making excuses. The way we do whenever the conversation turns to Kristen. And Stefano. And Ben. And Bonnie. And Nicole. And Leo. And Victor.
But, considering how many people are forgiven in Salem on a daily basis, it’s only fair that Maggie should cut Xander the same slack she cuts Victor. And suggest Sarah do the same.
